Apple’s WWDC23 Conference

APPLE WWDC23

The Event

The annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) by Apple is due to start today, and it’s rumoured to be a substantial event. The primary anticipation revolves around the unveiling of the Apple VR headset, the new Apple xrOS platform, a Mac Pro and possibly a 15-inch MacBook Air (2023). Even if the headset or the xrOS platform don’t make an appearance, there are plenty of other announcements to excite Apple enthusiasts.

Software Updates

The focus of WWDC is usually software updates across Apple’s entire product line, which includes the iPhone, Macs, iPad, and Watch. During this event, we anticipate the unveiling of new software versions such as iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17. Significant updates to existing iPhone features like CarPlay, Siri, and Messages are also on the cards.

If you own any Apple devices, it’s worth tuning in to the keynote today (June 5) at 6pm BST. Updates will be provided directly from Apple Park in Cupertino.

Apple Rumours

In recent news, there have been multiple rumours about Apple’s VR headset, including speculation that it may have 4K displays 50 times brighter than the Oculus Quest 2’s. Additionally, it’s suggested that the mixed-reality headset could be challenging to purchase this year, with possible limited shipping of 100,000 units in its first year.

Other rumours surround the Apple M2 Ultra chip, a new Mac Pro, a 15-inch MacBook Air, and a possible new iMac. On the software side, iOS 17 and macOS 14 are anticipated, as well as a new xrOS platform for the rumoured mixed-reality headset.

The conference is also set to reveal significant updates to existing iPhone staples, including CarPlay, Siri, and Messages. The new macOS version may feature more versatile desktop widgets and a version of the Dynamic Island for Apple laptops. The xrOS platform, if introduced, will most likely be optimised for the array of chips, cameras, and sensors in Apple’s headset.
